Armenian Music Award 2007

On that day, the 5th National Music Awards (for the year 2007) event took place at the National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet (named after Alexander Spentiarian). President Robert Kocharian attended the ceremony.

Last year’s 15-jury voting system did not work out properly, so the idea of the sealed envelopes was re-introduced. The jury included people from different categories and professions. They studied nominations of each category and made their decision accordingly. Personally, I think there were some fabricated awards, which lead to unfair outcomes. I came to this conclusion while watching the show.

1- When did you start your first steps in music? And what were the stages you came through?
In my early years, I started participating in Saint Mary (Asdvadzadzin) Church’s choir in Aleppo, where I am still a member. I attended private vocal lessons with Araks Chekijian.

2- What was your first serious musical work?
My first work was a CD album called "Tson angakhoutian" in honor of the 85th anniversary of the First Armenia’s Independent Day under patronage of Syrian-Armenian Youth Union (SEM).

A year has passed since the tragic death of Vartuhi Vartanian. Her memory lives among thousands of her music admirers, friends and relatives. Norair Kazandjian

Norair Kazandjian is a known name within the circles of the Armenians in the United Arab Emirates.
Born in the Latakia, Syria, he has been blessed with parents who deeply comprehend the value of music and arts. After High School he moves to Aleppo to study in the Medical University, but, in the meanwhile, discovers that the world of music is close to his heart. He manages to follow lessons on guitar, piano and reciting.

His repertoire includes, besides Armenian, songs in foreign languages.
He has produced 9 CDs & audio cassettes and has been invited to perform in many Armenian communities. He has composed the music of some of his unique songs (words by poets Yervant Barsoumian and Paren Hovsepian).

Arax Chekidjian - Bilemdjian

Classical music is universal. It can be heard or played in all ages for different ages similar to classical literature. Arax Chekidjian-Bilemdjian was the first in Aleppo to introduce international operatic music. She combines an impressive technique with great dramatic gifts and charm. Her remarkable musical and dramatic talents led her to become a diva.

She is raised in a family of music lovers. At an early age, she shows interest towards music. After graduating from secondary school in Lebanon, she receives her musical education in Romanos Melikian Conservatory in Yerevan. In 1978 she attended Gomidas National Conservatory in Yerevan to study Vocal singing under the direction of Prof. Datevig Sazandarian, who made her what she is today.

In 1985 she found her own vocal school from where many well-known singers were graduated; Talar Degrmenjian, Susan Haddad and Razek Francois Bitar (first Syrian Countertenor, currently living in Italy). In 1991 she represented Syria participating in an international music contest in North Korea winning the title of Best Soprano Singer and returned home with a gold medal.
