In the sense of the national belonging of its population, Armenia could be considered a homogeneous country. There are a few national minority communities in Armenia.
The Assyrians settled in Armenia over four centuries ago, in order to avoid the persecution of the neighboring nations. They have migrated from territories, known today as Syria and Iraq, to Western Armenia (Kars and Erzurum) and later to Eastern Armenia.
We should mention that the overwhelming majority of the Assyrians who had migrated to Western Armenia have fallen victim during the 1915 Genocide.
According to the latest statistics conducted in 2001, the number of the Assyrians in Armenia was 2300 people, who lived in the towns of Dvin and Dimitrov in the Ararat province and in the town of Arzni in the Kotayk province.
In the schools of the Assyrian villages, the Assyrian language has been taught for years now and the necessary textbooks have been printed.
Upon touring the Assyrian towns, we noticed the unfortunate fact that many of the Assyrians were not familiar with their own history. There are two Assyrian churches functioning in Armenia.
The Assyrians are mainly involved in agriculture.
A monument dedicated to the memory of the Assyrian genocide has been erected by the efforts of the “Athur” Assyrian Association of Armenia. It is placed in Yerevan's ring-shaped park next to the Nalbandyan and Moskofyan crossroad. This monument is a reminder of the importance of the Armenian-Assyrian Genocide recognition, which will prevent further genocides against humanity.
On the first of April, the Assyrians celebrate the New Year, the “Hab Nisan”, one of the oldest holidays dedicated to the nature's restoration. The celebrations last three days, but some people celebrate it for 12 days. During these days, the kids do not go to school and all institutions officially close for five days. It is common for the whole family to visit their elders and grandparents and to congratulate them for the holidays. Family members also exchange gifts.
We should mention that besides celebrating the New Year traditionally on the first of April, the Assyrians also celebrate it on January the first.

Հայաստանի բնակչությունը ազգային պատկանելիության իմաստով համարյա միատարր երկիր է: Հայաստանում բնակվում են մի քանի ազգային փոքրամասնությունների համայնքներ:
Հայաստանի տարածքում ասորիները բնակություն են հաստատել ավելի չորս դար առաջ` խուսափելով հարեւան ժողովուրդների հալածանքներից` ներկայիս Սիրիայի և Իրաքի տարածքից գաղթել են Արևմտեան Հայաստանի Կարսի, էրզրումի նահանգներ և ապա Արեվելյան Հայաստան:
Նշենք, որ 1915 թվականի եղեռնին զոհ են գնացել Արեվմտյան Հայաստան գաղթած ասորիների գերակշիռ մասը:
Ներկայումս Հայաստանում ասորիների թիվը, ըստ վերջին` 2001թ.-ի մարդահամարի տվյալների 2300 մարդ է, որոնք բնակվում են Արարատի մարզի` Դվին, Դիմիտրով, Կոտայքի մարզի Արզնի համայնքներում:
Ասորական գյուղերի դպրոցներում արդեն մի քանի տարի է դասավանդվում է ասորերեն լեզուն, տպագրվել են անհրաժեշտ դասագրքեր:
Ցավալի մի փաստ նկատեցինք շրջելով ասորական համայնքներում` մեզ հանդիպած շատ ասորիներ չգիտեին իրենց պատմությունը: Հայաստանում գործում է 2 ասորական եկեղեցի:
Ասորիները հիմնականում զբաղվում են հողագործությամբ:
Ասորիների ցեղասպանության հիշատակին նվիրված հուշարձան է կառուցվել, Հայաստանի ասորիների ?Աթուռ? ասոցիացիայի ջանքերով, Երևանի օղակաձև զբոսայգում՝ Նալբանդյան և Մոսկովյան փողոցների խաչմերուկի մոտ:
Հուշաքարը ևս մեկ անգամ կհիշեցնի հայ-ասորական ցեղասպանության ճանաչման կարևորությունը, ճանաչում, որը կկանխի մարդկության դեմ շարունակվող ցեղասպանությունը:
Գարնանը ` ապրիլ 1-ին ասորիները նշում են Ամանորը ? ?Հաբ Նիսան?, բնության վերակենդանացման ու վերականգնման ամենահին կրոնական եւ ազգային տոներից մեկը: Ավանդաբար տոնակատարություններն ընթանում են երեք օր, բայց մարդիկ նշում են Ամանորը 12 օրվա ընթացքում: Այս օրերին երեխաները չեն սովորում, եւ հինգ օր հաստատությունները պաշտոնապես չեն աշխատում: Հատկանշական է, որ տոնի կապակցությամբ` ամբողջ ընտանիքներով ասորիները գնում են շնորհավորելու ավագներին, պապերին և տատերին: Ընտանիքների անդամները նաև նվերներով են փոխանակվում:
Նշենք, որ բացի ապրիլի 1-ին, ավանդաբար Ամանորը տոնելուց` ասորիները Նոր տարին նշում են նաև հունվարի 1-ին:
