H.E. Ambassador of Armenia Dr. Arshak Poladian received Azad-Hye representative in his office on 24th April 2003, with his friendly smile.
After a brief introduction he referred to the article about the building of the new Embassy premises and expressed his dissatisfaction about the way the subject was presented, saying it reminded him of the tabloid papers that are mushrooming in Armenia these days. In this respect he said that this subject should be left out of the community discussions.
On the other hand, Ambassador Poladian stated that his policy has never been to interfere in the Diaspora affairs. He underlined that Armenians in the UAE are mostly citizens of foreign countries, therefore they mainly need to develop cultural ties with Armenia in order to preserve their identity. “It is better for them to look after their own social and economic prosperity, leaving the official affairs to the care of the competent authorities in Armenia. The Government of Armenia should decide whether there is a need for Trade Center or not in Dubai”, he added, insisting that articles about Armenia in Azad-Hye should always reflect positive values of Armenia. “Writers should exercise self-censorship”, he said, expressing the wish to have a final look at all future articles concerning the Embassy before publication.
Ambassador Poladian agreed that there are several issues that deserve to be criticized. For example, this was the third year the Embassy was marking the memory of the Genocide (in 24th April), but only few members of the Community visited the Embassy in this special occasion. He hoped these people read the criticism and attend next year.
The Ambassador assured that he has always an open door policy for all Armenian. He concluded that we should all believe in the progress of Armenia and in the brotherly Diaspora – Armenia relations.
