Continuing the season of World Music concerts, the Cultural Foundation in Abu Dhabi presents Savina Yannatou and Primavera en Salonico, one of the best known and most loved musical ensembles of Greece. Savina Yannatou is widely considered an exceptional vocalist and has graced the stage of many international festivals, including WOMAD. Based on traditional material – mainly from the Mediterranean Area – Savina Yannatou and the group Primavera en Salonico offer an open sound without borders, insisting on acoustic instruments, half of which have their origin in the East. With a background that combines classical and “authentic” traditional music with improvised music and jazz, they connect the modal music of the East with the equivalent music of Western Europe, music of the Middle Ages and the popular polyphonies of the Mediterranean. Beginning from the melismatic riches of Eastern Maqam and the charming irregular rhythms of the Orient, the Cultural Foundation invites you to explore the territory of Western free improvisation and modern jazz. Thursday, 09 April 2009, 8:30 pm Website: www.savinayannatou.com Click below to listen to Savina Yannatou singing popular Armenian song “Sareri hovin mernem” from her album “Songs of an other” (2007).
