The Armenian Cultural Association of Abu Dhabi has the pleasure to inform you that the State Youth Symphonic Orchestra of Armenia under the baton of Maestro Sergey Smpadyan has been invited to perform in the UAE on the following dates:
1) On Saturday, 16 May 2009, at the Main Auditorium of Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation.
2) On Sunday, 17 May 2009, at the Dubai Community Theatre & Arts Centre (DUCTAC), in the Mall of the Emirates, 2nd level, Orange Car Park.

Sharjah: End of school year celebration 2009

On Friday, 08 May 2009, students, parents and friends attended the Ohanessian one-day Armenian School?s end of school year celebration. The event began with the UAE and Armenian national anthems.
Students from all grades took part in dancing, poetry reciting, staging and other cultural acts. About 200 people followed the program with great interest. Read full article
Mothers' Day celebration in Sharjah (2009)

Ohanessian one-day Armenian School in Sharjah celebrated the Mothers' Day in March 2009. 4 groups of volunteer ladies were formed to perpare a unique set of dishes.

The Consular Department in the Embassy of Armenia in Abu Dhabi was one of the first Armenian Embassies to start processing the applications for the Armenian citizenship according to the new regulations. We had a meeting with Mr. Marat Melikian, the Consul, who gave some details about the process and the subsequent steps that an individual has to take after receiving the approval for granting citizenship.
Can you tell us about the current situation of the applicants for Armenian citizenship? What is your overall evaluation of the past period?
Since almost a year, we have been accepting applications for the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia. As you know, the dual citizenship law, which was passed two years ago, enables Armenians of Diaspora to apply for citizenship of the country of their ancestors. Read the whole text

The Armenian Cultural Association of Abu Dhabi has the pleasure to inform you that the State Youth Symphonic Orchestra of Armenia under the baton of Maestro Sergey Smpadyan has been invited to perform in the UAE on the following dates:
1) On Saturday, 16th May, 2009, at the Main Auditorium of Abu Dhabi Cultural Foundation.
2) On Sunday, 17th May, 2009, at the Dubai Community Theatre & Arts Centre, in the Mall of the Emirates, 2nd level, Orange Car Park.
The concerts will be held at 8:00 pm sharp.You are all cordially invited to attend the concerts. Admission is free.
We are pleased to announce that the first Belotecompetition in Dubai and the Northern Emirates will take place at 3:00 pm on Friday May 15, 2009, in Louloua hotel Al Khan area in Sharjah.
Entrance fee: AED 100 per person.
Water and soft drinks will be served during the competition followed by an open buffet dinner. Trophies will be given to the first 3 winning teams.

The Council of the Armenian Community in Northern Emirates will celebrate the 28 May National Day event in Crowne Plaza hotel in Dubai on 28 May 2009, starting from 08:30pm.
Artist Makich (Mkrtich Mkrtchian) has been specially invited from Armenia on this occasion, accompanied by David Amalian.
Patrioritc and ARF songs will be performed, glorifying the Fedayin movement and the Republic of 1918-1920.
Our next meeting will take place on Wednesday 06 May 2009 in Sezzam Restaurant, Kempinski Hotel Mall of the Emirates, Dubai, at 09:00 pm (the Flame Alcoholic Section).
Located at the interconnection between the shopping mall, Ski Dubai and the Hotel, the restaurant has access from all three components in addition to main entrance right on Sheikh Zayed Road as a stand alone entity. The 900 seat restaurant features three cooking methods: flame, bake, and steam. It is open until until 11.30 pm.

Nishan Basmajian starts a new website in UAE

Nishan Basmajian, a well-known community figure in the UAE, has started his own website under the name “nshanag” (dart board).
The website, which comes in the form of a blog, will be mainly in Armenian language and aims to be a “meeting point for intellectuals”.
In his website, Basmajian plans to host different subjects, including articles on literature, art, education, religion, etc. Material about the Armenian reality would be posted as well. Read all

Dr. Armen Papazian appointed as Head of Islamic Finance at UBS

UBS has appointed Dr. Armen Papazian as Head of Islamic Finance based in the firm's branch at the Dubai International Financial Centre.
Prior to this, as Senior Vice President for Innovation and Development at Nasdac Dubai, Dr. Papazian led the market development efforts of the exchange.
Dr. Papazian earned his PhD at Cambridge, UK, specializing in Financial Economics.

“I love Armenia, it?s my home. I am always happy to be there. I never left it forever. There were hard times for the Armenian people. I like to travel, and I have concerts in Europe and in the USA almost every other month but I always come back home”.
Armenian citizenship granted for applicant from UAE

For the first time a Diaspora Armenian who applied last autumn in the Republic of Armenia Embassy in Abu Dhabi was granted citizenship according to an order signed by President Serzh Sargsyan.
In the coming months other applicants are in the waiting list for full Armenian citizenship.
The process of granting citizenship for Diaspora Armenians takes several months (up to one year) and the post-granting formalities (including oath ceremony) may take several weeks.

Azad-Hye has started a monthly relaxed (cool) edition called ?Not so casual” (Ոչ Այնքան Հարեւանցի), where community and pan-Armenian subjects would be presented in laid-back style and humor.
The aim is to create a sort of casual and free to say atmosphere, where facts would be highlighted in a somehow exagerrated or poignant way.

This year the Lenten (Michink) event in Abu Dhabi was celebrated on Friday 20th March 2009 in the Millennium Hotel (Marakech Restaurant) in Abu Dhabi, with interesting program and surprises.
The Principal of the Armenian Community School of Abu Dhabi Gulizar Jonian took care of the details of this event, which attracted about 100 people.
The event was an opportunity to mark the Middle Eastern Mothers' Day (which is celebrated in Arab countries on the 21st March).
Jonian welcomed the participants and said that this event was thought to be an ideal way to bring students, their families and friends of the school together and celebrate an Armenian event like ?one big family?. Read more and see additional photos
Abu Dhabi Armenians: Antranig Hajibalian, 35 years service to the Armenian Church and community

Friday 09 January 2009 was a day to remember in Abu Dhabi. The tiny Armenian Community in the captial of the United Arab Emirates, marked the 35th anniversary of Antranig Hajibalian's devotion to the community and church life.
The ceremony took place in the Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Abu Dhabi, in the presence of more than 70 persons.
Father Aram Deyirmendjian, the parish priest of the UAE Armenians, read the letter of appreciation signed by Archbishop Goriun Babian. In his letter, the Catholicosal Vicar of Kuwait and Gulf countries, expressed his gratitude to Antranig Hajibalian, on behalf of the believers and the national authorities, for his role in keeping the Armenian religious and national traditions alive in Abu Dhabi and serving with devotion through many years. The Archbishop expressed his firm belief that Hajibalian will continue serving the Church. He praised his spirit of dedicatoin and voluntary work, considering him as a valued example for Diaspora Armenians. Read more
Armenian Easter party in UAE desert (11 April 2009)

This year?s ?Havguetakhagh? (Հաւկթախաղ) was held in the desert on Saturday 11th April 2009. A special program with surprises and entertainment was organized, including dune riding. 4 wheel drive cars took the participants to a desert camp, which was exclusively reserved for the use of the Armenian Community.
