The funny thing about these elections was the tailor-made number of candidates (which was exactly matching with the number of available seats). This phenomenon happened also in Abu Dhabi and Kuwait. As for the number of people who didn't vote I refer that to the hard economic situation the people are suffering for the last couple of years. The home rents are? in raise school tuitions are in raise and for the person to come and vote after paying the (Azkayin doork)seems unfair. As for the late council members with respect – we all saw that there was not much done in the last four years. Are they helping the iraqi Armenian refugees in the country? Four (4) members will be elected from Abu Dhabi and Al Ain regions. Those who are wishing to propose their candidacy must submit their written application to Mr. Matig Manougian (050-8179173) or Mr. Hagop Arslanian (050-44464791) by midnight of Thursday 8 February 2007. Main prerequisites to vote are: a) Being a recognized member of the Armenian Community in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain and residing in it at least 6 months prior to the dale of elections. b) Having completed 18 years of age to vote and 25 to be elected. c) Having paid the yearly tax regularly “Azkayeen Dourk”. The first meeting of the newly appointed Electoral Committee took place in ? The first meeting took place in an amicable atmosphere. Every member was keen to work sincerely, honestly and diligently to make this election a success. The slogan was the “unity” of our community in ? An Agenda was set to discuss the following topics: – Introduction of the members: Miss Aleen Hajibalian, Miss?Anita Saatdjian, Mr. Hagop Arslanian, Mr. Panos Balian and Mr.?Setrag Der Melkonian. The Executive Council (Vartchoutyoun) was represented in this first meeting by Chairman Mr. Vahe Toukhmanian. – Election of the Electoral Committee's Tivan (administrative hierarchy):?Mr. Panos Balian was elected as Chairman and Mr. Hagop Arslanian as tivan?s secretary till further notice. – Review of the Constitution / Regulation (Ganonakroutyoun). During the upcoming election campaign period of the Armenians in We would like to urge all individuals (party members and non-partisans) not to use the telephone or other communication means for the purpose of smearing or mudslinging fellow Armenians. For the sake of the well-being of our communities in We all agree that the previous 4 years were not brilliant in our community life. We need to encourage our community members to come forward and nominate themselves for the elections. Healthy elections with responsible candidates: this should be our slogan. Otherwise, we will witness another period of lost opportunities. |
