From 26-28 April 2010, Armenia participated in the Middle East Food exhibition in Abu Dhabi, UAE. The Armenian stand was organized on the initiative of the Embassy of Armenia in Abu Dhabi and the Armenian Development Agency.
Armenia was represented by the following companies:
Glass World Company (Glass Container Manufacturing Enterprise)
Konser Echmiadzin Cannery LLC
Dilijan Frolova Mineral Water Factory
Middle East Food was staged at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) in the United Arab Emirates and was organized by Channels Exhibitions, one of the leading exhibition organisers in the Middle East with more than 20 years experience (website: http://www.middleastfood.com/)
Armenian products were well received during the exhibition. This creates opportunities for bigger participation in future food fairs (in UAE and the wider Gulf region). About 90% of food requirements in the Gulf region are imported from countries as far as Australia, South Africa, etc. Armenia, being geographically close to the region and having surplus of agricultural products of high quality can highly benefit from the market.
For several years in the past, Armenia participated in Gulfood exhibitions in Dubai. Azad-Hye covered the participations and posted reports about the prospects of markeing Armenian agricultural products in the GCC and wider Asian markets. The Armenian Development Agency funded the participants and created enough incentives for them to showcase their products. It is unfortunate that Armenia has stopped participating in Gulfood in the recent years. The exhibitors withdrew as the Armenian Development Agency stopped subsidizing the Armenian pavilion.
It is a good sign that the Armenian agricultural products are re-appearing in the UAE market. The market is competitive and our manufacturers need to improve the quality of their products without raising the cost. They need to take care of other details too, such as packaging, facilitating cargo and financial transaction formalities etc.
