Commemoration of the 17th Independence Anniversary of the Republic of Armenia

Will take place on Monday, 22nd September 2008 at 7:00 p.m., at the Pierre Keusseyan community hall.
H. E. Vahagn Melikian, Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia to the U.A.E. will be the day?s speaker.
All community members are invited to participate.
We would like to bring to your attention that road works are in progress in Sharjah and therefore you should plan your journey to this event in advance.

Not more then 40 Armenians attended the celebration of Armenian National Day, thats including the members of the Azakyin Vartchoutyoun, the priest and the speakers.
Well, it was a shame to see such an important date and the complete ignorance of the thousands of Armenians living in Dubai, Sharjah not to attend.
Almost NO Armenia Armenians were present!
The blame this time wasn't on the traffic, neither the construction happening around the compound.
I blame it mainly on the organizers.
First: No propaganda, no hard work, no people, sending a fax isn't enough.
Second: Azkayin Vartchoutyoun should realise why people are avoiding them; events attended by only dozens of people are becoming too regular.
Why we don't see any Armenia Armenians.
Where are the youngs?
Why we see only Armenians from one “specific” community? Is this their own “clubhouse”?
Is anyone thinking of solving problems, get Armenians together?
Well, organizing Barahanteses isn't enough and there is complete ignorance of Azkayin Vartchoutyoun or should I say the one-man show Azkayin Vartchoutyoun about the big picture.
Armenians, who care about their children, teenagers and themselves and want to preserve and grow in Armenian environment should think twice.
I ask the Azkayin Vartchoutyoun to resign and give the leadership to more young and dynamic Armenians who care about their future!
Enough is enough!

Գիշերը տուն վերադարձայ հայու հպարտութեամբ լեցուած, լիցքաւորուած հայկականութեամբ, միտքս հարստացած պատմութեամբ, տրամադրութիւնս՝ բարձր։ Ներկայ եղած էի Հիւսիսային Էմիրութեանց Ազգային Վարչութեան կազմակերպած Հայաստանի Հանրապետութեան վերանկախացման 17րդ տարեդարձի տօնակատարութեան։ Դեսպան Վահագն Մելիքեան զիս իր յուշերով տարած էր 17 տարի առաջ, երբ հայ ժողովուրդը երկունքի մէջ էր, ծնելու համար այսօրուան վերանկախացած հանրապետութիւնը, իսկ Կորիւն Սրբազանը զիս տարած էր 130 տարի առաջ, երբ անմահն Րաֆֆին տեսիլքը կ՚ունենար Արարատի վրայ տեսնելու հայկական դրօշ:

The question here is not about Armenia Armenians, but all Armenians! and what are We, Varchutyoun and the Embassy going to do to attract greater number of people to such important events. Changes are needed in the sturcture and the way Varchutyoun communicates to the rest of the community and we need to change ourselves so that we all take interest and initiative in political, religious, historical and social events. Whilst organisation and marketing plays a huge role in attracting participants, unfortunately at the end of the day if someone is not interested in a particular event, we can not force them or drag them to attend that event.
It is our youth that are the future of this community and if their view, suggestions, ideas are not taken into consideration and the decision making process of Varchutyoun, there is a great danger that sooner or later more people will be requesting for resignations and the community will become more disenchanted with their leaders. If youth is not interested, then it is the role of leaders to work on different ways to generate the interest and raise the level of awareness of community issues amongst the youth.
Is anyone thinking of solving the problem, the answer is simple and so far very obvious- Azad Hye. You only need to look at the website various forums, articles, pictures etc to understand what a difference this website (and those that contribute towards its existence) is making to our community.
To those who did not get a chance to attend the event, you have missed two great and charismatic speeches by His Excellency Ambassador Vahagn Melikian and Archbishop Goriun Babian – God Bless Him, we need more leaders like him in our Church and communities.
