Sirusho will represent Armenia at Eurovision 2008 International Song Contest. Next year the contest will be held in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. ?
Yesterday Sirusho?s candidacy was approved by the Artistic Council of the Public Television and Radio Company of Armenia. The song will be chosen by viewers during a voting on 17 March 2007.

According to new Eurovision rules, only the four founder countries and the winner of the previous year will go directly to the final. Representatives of the rest of the countries will go to the final only after the semi-finals.

In 2008 Armenia will participate in the Eurovision Song Contest for the third time. In 2006 Armenia was represented by Andre. Hayko represented Armenia in 2007. Both singers occupied the 8th position.

Note: New Eurovision rules allow only five countries to go directly to the Final. These countries are France, Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom (the countries that cover the main expenses for the organization of the Eurovision Song Contest) and Serbia (the winner of Eurovision 2007). All other participants will be grouped into two Semi-Finals. 10 countries will be selected from each Semi-Final, nine of which will elected by viewers through phone calls and SMS messages. The jury will choose the tenth country. All in all, 25 countries will be represented in the Final. The two Semi-Finals will be aired live on the same day and at the same hour, but Armenian viewers will watch the one where the representative of Armenia performs. ?
Semi-Finals are set for 22 May 2008. The Final will take place on 24 May 2008.

Sirusho to represent Armenia

On 14 November 2007 the Public TV of Armenia has announced in a special programme that the young singer Sirusho Harutyunyan will be it's representative in Belgrade. There will be a national final with 5 songs and the public will choose the winning song that Sirusho will present at the contest.

Sirusho Harutyunyan is a young singer born on the 7th of January in Yerevan, the Armenian capital. Her first public performance was at the age of 7 and with only 9 years of age, she received an award for her song “Lusabats”. Apart from Armenia, Sirusho has performed in countries such as Iran, Russia, Georgia and Poland.

Her first album was entitled “Sirusho” and released in 1999 with her second album released in 2005. In the first Armenian national music finals she won awards for best female singer, best album and the future award of Armenian music. Currently she is the most important female singer in Armenia and was the Armenian spokesperson at the last Eurovision Song Contest.

Public TV of Armenia has announced a competition for songs. Sirusho will choose 5 of them to sing at the National Selection and public will vote for the best one. The winning song will be announced in early 2008.
