Art Dubai will feature single-focus highlights from Egyptian contemporary master Shant Avedissian (or Chant Avedissian), represented by Rose Issa Projects, London. Shant Avedissian in his colorful stenciled images, deftly explores the boundaries between “high” and “low” art, politics and pop. Avedissian refined his techniques in Western art schools, but draws inspiration from Egypt's modern Golden Age, with its glamorous divas and mustachioed movie stars. His iconic figures include legendary singers Om Kulthoum and Asmahan; screen sirens Shadia and Hind Rostom; heartthrobs Farid al-Atrash and Abdel Halim Hafez; and once-adored statesmen like Gamal Abdel Nasser. Art Dubai is a subsidiary of the Dubai International Financial Centre and is held in partnership with Abraaj Capital and sponsored by Van Cleef & Arpels. The Swedish Parliament recognized the Armenian Gencodie on 11 March 2010. Although the Swedish Foreign Affairs Committee did not endorse the original demand for the recognition of the Genocide and the Government of Sweden was not pleased with the outcome, still the vote of the Parliament expressed the view of the majority of the people in that country. The truth is known to everyone, but political considerations may delay the universal recognition of the Genocide. You can express your appreciation by writting to the Ambassador of Sweden in the UAE, HE Bruno S Beijer (see photo) You can use one of the methods mentioned here. |

See Azad-Hye comment at the end of the article published in our News section here. Caucasus conflict could turn tragedy into wider disaster I?ve got to know Parviz Ismailzadeh pretty well over the past couple of years. Parviz is the consul of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Dubai, and since my marriage to an Azeri lady he has been a great help in facilitating the documentation necessary to regularise matters for us and for our young daughter. It was a shock how much paperwork was needed, but Parviz guided us cheerfully through the minefield of post-Soviet bureaucracy and has become a friend. He is an affable man, good company over a good steak, and he has taught me much about the political and economic affairs of Azerbaijan, a fascinating country at an equally fascinating stage in its history. Read all and see our comment here. |
