Over 600 firms participating in Gulfood 2003

ABU DHABI, FEB 22, 2003 (WAM) –More than 660 exhibitors representing 44 countries including 23 national pavilions are participating in the GulFood 2003 exhibition which begins at the Dubai International Exhibition Centre tomorrow.

Officials said, the show has witnessed a 22 per cent growth this year compared to 2001, according to reports in the UAE's dailies. Mubarak Ahmed bin Fahad, director general of Dubai World Trade Centre, said, “Our marketing campaigns are conducted on an ongoing basis and the marketing of the event began immediately after the successful staging of Gulf Food 2001.The response has been incredible with more than 660 exhibitors representing 44 countries participating this year.

“We have targeted companies from around the world however, we have received an exceptionally strong response from Europe, North America and Australasia. National pavilions making their debut this year include China, Greece, Korea and Saxony (Germany) with several companies from Armenia participating for the very first time.

The earlier participants who have increased the size and scale of their participation this year include Germany, the U.S., Australia and Jordan to name a few.”, he said.

The food and beverage sector has the largest participation and there has been significant growth in the non-food sector as well. To put things in perspective, the ratio would be 55 per cent F&B and 45 per cent non-food exhibitors. “We are expecting around 800 entries for the Emirates Culinary Guild's Salon Culinaire and the competition will provide a perfect platform to showcase the talents of chefs in the region while at the same time inspiring them to create innovative cuisine,” he said.
