Armenia retains friendly relations with the Arab countries

Arab League logo In its relations with the Arab countries, Armenia has aimed at preserving and deepening the current level of political dialogue and safeguarding the mutual support in international organizations, says the Republic of Armenia Ministry of Foreign Affair's annual report on Armenia's foreign activities in 2006.


 


The document underlines that a high level of political, scientific and cultural cooperation was achieved between Armenia and Egypt in 2006. “For the first time Armenian companies participated in the 10th international exhibition of informational technologies in Cairo in February 2006. An exhibition was held in Alexandrine Library on Armenian Medieval manuscripts of Matenadaran, in commemoration of the 1600th anniversary of the Armenian Alphabet”, says the report.


 


The report draws attention to the relations with Lebanon and reminds that according to the decision of the Armenian government, Beirut was provided humanitarian aid during the Israeli aggression. Particularly, Lebanon was given 7.5 tones medicines and medical equipment, which totally was worth 27 million AMD [US$ 75,000]. During the war some 850 persons from Lebanon and Israel/Palestine were taken to Armenia by “Armavia” airlines.


 


The report also touches upon the peacekeeping mission of Armenia in Iraq. “According to the December 2006 resolution of the National Assembly the Armenian peacekeepers, totally 46 non-combat engineers, drivers and doctors, will continue their mission in Iraq during 2007,” mentions the report.
