Karen Sargsyan has been living and creating in France for almost twelve years now. He sings and plays only in Armenian. He has moved to France from Armenia. Karen's songs stand out, because he is one of the few artists, who are able to spread the Armenian spirit amongst the Armenian community members there.
His love towards music started to show when he was a little boy. He was still a 5 years old kid when he started to play the piano and entertain the house guests, whom he always amazed and amused.
“Unfortunately, I wasn't able to get a professional education. My musical education was concluded with 6 months of violin lessons and 3 months of guitar lessons.”
When he was still a school boy, something memorable happened to Karen, which was proof that his future would be all about music.
“After the well-known earthquake in 1988, my school mates and I had to move to the city of Anapa, Russia. We were living in a dormitory. I hadn't played for a while and one day, I noticed a piano in the dorm theatre, I asked them to let me play, but they refused categorically. After some time, I felt that not playing is becoming really unpleasant, so I secretly went into the hall and started to play. I kept playing until I lost track of time. I may have played for a few hours. During that time, my mother got so worried about me that she gathered the whole dorm staff and they all started to look for me. After that incident, I was allowed to play the piano for two hours every day.”
After graduating from school, Karen got accepted into the Academy of Agriculture, but he found himself in music again, which gradually became his way of living.
In the 1990s, those infamous dark and cold years, Karen started to cooperate and participate in many concerts with the “Horovel” song and dance ensemble of his hometown Vanadzor.
“In 1999, my family and I moved to France. It was so hard at first; it took us a few years to adapt to the new lifestyle and for me to reestablish myself as a musician. Along with the difficulties, new possibilities were opening up for me here. The fact that France is a multinational country enabled me to get to know many people's music and play in their concerts and balls.”
Karen works with the cultural figures of different nationalities, Kurds, Arabs, Russians, French… however, he's never given up on what's Armenian.
“The closest to my heart has always been the Armenian song, the Armenian festivities with all of their aspects. I have played with famous musicians, like the Russian Nikolay Baskov, I've also been on tour to many European countries. I've been composing for a long time now and thanks to my friends' support, I recorded an album entitled (Heru Hervits/ Far Away).?
Karen's Armenian songs could be heard through the Armenian radios of France and his CD's are sold in the Armenian shops. He has an amazing family, two children, whom he raises with an Armenian spirit. Despite the fact that he lives far away from his homeland, the fact that he is able to maintain his language and heritage throughout his songs, is a source of pride and inspiration for him.
“It's not difficult to inspire me; something really simple could influence my mood. The main thing that inspires me though is giving positive energy to the people and receiving the same from them, that's when I feel that my songs and music uplift their moods.”
Karen has many plans in the music domain and also for 2013. He is a romantic but his work has always been guided by reason. On another note, he has always dreamed of personally witnessing the recognition of the Armenian Genocide and the recognition of Artsakh?s (Karabakh) independence.
He sings for his homeland, for love and longing. He loves and misses Armenia and he always hopes that one bright day all the Armenians around the globe will return Home.

Կարեն Սարգսյանը ֆրանսահայերին հայկական երգին կարոտ չի թողնում

Արդեն 12 տարի է, ինչ երաժիշտ Կարեն Սարգսյանը ապրում ու ստեղծագործում է Ֆրանսիայում` երգում ու նվագում հայերեն ու հայկական: Այս երկիր տեղափոխվել է Հայաստանից: Կարենի երգերը առանձնանում են. տեղի սփյուռքում հայկականության շունչ ու հոգի տարածող հազվադեպ արվեստագետներից է նա:
Երաժշտության հանդեպ նրա հակվածությունը նկատվել է դեռ փոքր տարիքից: 5-6 տարեկանից արդեն դաշնամուր էր նվագում տան հյուրերի համար` զարմացնելով ու զվարճացնելով նրանց.
– Ցավոք, մասնագիտական կրթություն այդպես էլ չստացա` նոտաներ գրել չէի սիրում: Իմ երաժշտական կրթությունը սահմանափակվեց վեցամսյան ջութակի եւ եռամսյա կիթառի դասերով:
Դպրոցական տարիներից մի շատ խորհրդանշական հիշողություն է տպավորվել Կարենի մեջ, որը յուրօրինակ ապացույց է եղել` իր ապագան երաժշտությունն է:
-1988-ի հայտնի երկրաշարժից հետո մեր դպրոցի հետ տարհանվեցինք Ռուսաստանի Անապա քաղաքը` հանրակացարանում էինք ապրում: Երկար ժամանակ դաշնամուր չէի նվագել ու մի անգամ հանրակացարանի կինոդահլիճում դաշնամուր տեսա, խնդրեցի, որ բացեմ նվագեմ, բայց ինձ կտրուկ մերժեցին: Որոշակի ժամանակ հետո զգալով, որ չնվագելը դառնում է անտանելի` մի օր գաղտնի մտա դահլիճ ու սկսեցի նվագել: Այնպես էի տարված նվագով, որ չզգացի` ինչպես է թռնում ժամանակը. մի քանի ժամ նվագել եմ: Իսկ այդ ընթացքում մայրս այնքան է անհանգստեցել, որ հավաքել է հանրակացարանի համարյա ողջ անձնակազմը ու սկսել են ինձ որոնել: Այդ դեպքից հետո ինձ օրական երկու ժամ հնարավորություն տվեցին օգտվել դաշնամուրից:
Դպրոցն ավարտելով` Կարենն ընդունվում է Երեւանի Գյուղատնտեսական ակադեմիա, սակայն իրեն նորից գտնում է երաժշտության մեջ, ու հետզհետե երաժշտությունն իր համար դառնում է նաեւ աշխատանք` ապրուստի միջոց: Հայստանում արդեն 90-կաններն էին` հայտնի դժվարին մութ ու ցուրտ տարիները: Այդ տարիներին Կարենն համագործակցում է իր ծննդավայր Վանաձորի ?Հորովել? երգի-պարի համայթի հետ, մասնակցում զանազան համրեգների:
-1999-ին ընտանիքով տեղափոխվեցինք ֆրանսիա: Սկզբում շատ դժվար էր, մի քանի տարի պահանջվեց, որպեսզի կարողանայինք ինտեգրվել նոր միջավայրին ու կարողանայի ինձ վերագտնել որպես երաժիշտ: Դժվարություններին զուգահեռ այստեղ ինձ համար այլ հանարավորություններ էին բացվում: Ֆրանսիայի շատ բազմազգ պետություն լինելը ինձ հնարավորություն տվեց մոտիկից ծանոթանալ տարբեր ժողովուրդների երաժշտություններին եւ նվագել իրենց համերգներին ու պարահանդեսներին:
Կարեն Սարգսյանն աշխատում է տարբեր ազգությունների մշակութային գործիչների հետ` քուրդ, արաբ, ռուս, ֆրանցիացի ու, այդուհանդերձ, հայկականն ու հայեցին իր մեջ երբեք տեղը չի զիջում.
-Ինձ ամենահարազատը հայկական երգն է, հայկական ուրախությունները` իրենց առանձնահատկություններով: Նվագել եմ հայտնի երաժիշտների հետ, ինչպիսին է ռուս Նիկոլայ Բասկովը, հյուրախաղերով եղել եվրոպական շատ ու շատ երկրներում: Վաղուց ստեղծագործած տարբեր երգեր ունեի, ունեի նաեւ նորերը ու ընկերներիս հորդորով ձայանգրեցի իմ ?Հեռու հեռվից? ալբոմը:
Կարենի երգերը հնչում են ֆրանսիայի հայկական ռադիոներով, սկավառակները վաճառվում հայկական խանութներում: Նա ունի սքանչելի ընտանիք, մեծացնում է 2 բալիկ, որոնց միանաշանակ հայկական ոգով է կրթում: Թեեւ օտարության մեջ է, բայց հայկականությունը պահելն ու տարածելը` իր երգ-երաժշտության միջոցով, Կարենի համար հպարտության, ոգեւորության ու ոգեշնչման աղբյուր է.
-Ինձ ոգեւորելը դժվար չէ, նույնիսկ աննշան երեւույթը կարող է մեծ ազդեցություն ունենալ տրամադրությանս վրա: Հիմանակնում ոգեւորվում եմ ժողովրդին դրական էներգիա տալով եւ իրենցից նույնը ստանալով ու երբ զգում եմ, որ իմ երգ-երաժշտությունը փոխում է իրենց տրամադրությունը:
Կարեն Սարգսյանը երաժշտության ասպարեզում շատ ու շատ ծրագրեր ունի նաեւ 2013-ին, աշխատանքի մեջ երազանքներ չունի, թեեւ լինելով ռոմանտիկ` միեւնույն է աշխատանքում միայն նպատակներով է առաջնորդվում: Բայց, այդուհանդերձ էլ, նվիրական մի երազանք միշտ փայփայում է`Ցեղասպանության ճանաչումը անձամբ տեսնել, տեսնել նաեւ Արցախի անկախության ճանաչումը? Նա երգում է Հայրենիքի, սիրո ու կարոտի մասին: Կարենը սիրում ու կարոտում է Հայրենիքը` հուսալով, որ մի լուսավոր օր աշխարհասփյուռ բոլոր հայերը Տուն կդառնան:
