“Even if we stay in Armenia for good, I?d like to visit Syria from time to time”.

Talar Sakayian was born in 1996 in Aleppo. She studied at AGBU?s (Lazar Najarian – Calouste Gulbenkian) high school. She was in her senior year when peace was disturbed in Syria. Gunshots, explosions?.After not so long, her father's shop was ruined and nothing was left of it. The Sakayians decided to leave Syria. They have been living in Armenia for the past one year.
-What difficulties did you have to face in the past year?
The most difficult thing was the adaptation; we were used to a certain lifestyle back in Syria, I was always surrounded with friends. We are safe and secure here and I believe we will gradually adapt ourselves to life in Armenia.
-Have you been to Armenia before?
Yes I visited Armenia four years ago, when I attended a relative's wedding ceremony. Of course, many things have changed since then. The most important thing is that now, the attitude towards the Syrian Armenians is different, as they are paying more attention to us than they used to do before.
-Have you settled down yet?
Yes, my father is already working and my mother is looking for a job that suits her abilities, my sister is a student at the University and I work in a small shop. My brother lives in England, he visits us once every few months. My parents have decided that we stay here for good. Of course, we miss Aleppo terribly; we miss our friends and our activities. I always remember my school and classmates, the active life we had. It was very difficult for me when we first got here, but I'm trying my best to adjust.
-Were you keeping the Armenian traditions back in Aleppo?
Of course we did. All of us spoke Armenian and only Armenian at home. At school the majority of the teachers used Arabic language, but we were able to keep our language. Armenian language and religion lessons were taught in schools. We celebrated all the Armenian holidays and on the 24th of April, we used to go the cemetery to commemorate the Genocide and pay our respect to the victims; all the Armenian shops, restaurants, clubs and schools remained closed for the day. Families used to celebrate New Year's Eve and Christmas together with relatives. We used to listen to Armenian music and we were familiar with almost all of Armenia's artists and their songs.
– What's your greatest wish?
I wish to see Syria returning to its previous shape. We might be able one day to return back, I am not sure, but even if we stay here for good, I'd like Syria to be peaceful again, and I'd like to visit my hometown every now and then.

Դալար Սաքայանը ծնվել է 1996 թվականին, Հալեպում: Սովորել է հայկական Լազար Նաջարյան դպրոցում: Ավարտական դասարանում էր, երբ Սիրիայում սկսվեց անհանգիստ կյանքը. կրակոցներ, պայթյուններ: Կարճ ժամանակ անց հոր խանութը հողին հավասարեցվեց: Սաքայանների ընտանիքը որոշում կայացրեց դուրս գալ Սիրիայից: Վերջին շուրջ մեկ տարին բնակվում են Հայաստանում:
– Դալար, ի՞նչ դժվարություններ եղան`կապված վերջին տարվա առկա խնդիրների հետ:
Դժվարություններ, անշուշտ, եղած են: Վարժուած էի այդտեղի կյանքին: Այնտեղ միշտ ընկերներուս հետ էի: Հոս ավելի ապահով եւ հանգիստ կզգամ եւ արդեն հարմարեցա այստեղի կյանքին:
– Մինչ այս Հայաստանում եղե՞լ էիր:
Այո, ասկե 4 տարի առաջ եկած էի`ազգականիս հարսանյաց արարողությանը: Իհարկե, որոշ բաներ փոխված են այս ընթացքին: Ամենակարեւորը կնշեմ, որ այժմ սիրիահայերուն ավելի մեծ արժեք կուտան հոս, քան անցյալին:
– Այժմ ձեր կյանքն այստեղ արդեն բնականոն հունո՞վ է ընթանում:
Այո, հայրս այստեղ խանութի մեջ կաշխատի, մայրս հարմար աշխատանք կփնտրե, քույրս համալսարանին մեջ կսորվի, ես ալ կաշխատիմ խանութի մը մեջ, իսկ եղբայրս Անգլիայի մեջ կապրի, բայց երկու-երեք ամիսը մեկ անգամ կայցելե մեզի: Ծնողներս որոշած են, որ մնանք հոս, այլեւս չվերադառնանք Սիրիա, բայց իհարկե, շատ կարոտցած ենք Հալեպը, մեր ընկերները: Ես միշտ կը հիշեմ դպրոցս, դասարանցիներս, այնտեղի առօրյան: Սկզբի օրերուն հոս ինծի համար շատ դժվար էր, բայց քիչ-քիչ վարժվեցա:
– Իսկ այնտեղ եւս պահպանո՞ւմ էիք հայկական ավանդույթները:
Մեծ մասամբ այո: Տանը պարտադիր հայերեն կխոսեինք: Իհարկե, դպրոցում ուսուցիչներու մեծ մասը արաբերեն կխոսեր, բայց մենք պահպանում էինք մեր լեզուն: Հայերեն 2 առարկա կուսուցանեինք. Հայոց լեզու եւ Կրոն: Նշում էինք տոները, օրինակ Ապրիլ 24-ին բոլոր հայությունը կայցելեր գերեզմանատուն`ի հիշատակ նահատակներուն, եւ բոլոր հայկական խանութները կփակվեին: Նոր տարվա գիշերը մենք մեր ընտանիքով նշելուց հետո կայցելեինք հարազատներուն ու բոլորս միասին կնշեինք տարեմուտը: Ասեմ նաեւ, որ հայկական երաժշտություն կլսեինք, ծանոթ էինք այստեղի որոշ կատարողներու երգերուն:
– Ամենամեծ ցանկությունդ?
Կուզեմ, որ Սիրիան խաղաղի, առաջվա պես դառնա: Թերեվս կգա օրը որ ետ կդառնանք, չեմ գիտեր, բայց եթե անգամ միշտ հոս մնանք, կուզեմ, որ հոն խաղաղ ըլլա ու երբեմն այցելենք?
