Pilgrimage at Saint John the Baptist Armenian Church

On January 12, 2020, pilgrimage to St. John the Baptist Church was organized to perform Divine Liturgy service.

The church is in the city of Chinsurah and was built in 1695. It is the second oldest Christian church in the region of West Bengal.

Even though no Armenians live in the city, pilgrimages, visits, and the Service of the Holy Mass is conducted in the church several times in a year.

This time the Holy Mass was performed by Rev. Fr. Artsrun Mikayelyan.

During the service, Father Artsrun preached about the feast. On this joyous occasion, the right hand of St. John the Baptist, that, according to the tradition, carries his relics, was brought from the Armenian Holy Church of Nazareth in Kolkata. The faithful approached and kissed the holy relics.

The service was attended by the members of the Church Committee of Kolkata, community members and the students of the Armenian College and Philanthropic Academy.

ՈՒԽՏԻ Ս. ՊԱՏԱՐԱԳ ՉԻՆՍՈՒՐԱՀԻ Ս. ՀՈՎՀԱՆՆԵՍ ՀԱՅՈՑ ԵԿԵՂԵՑՈՒՄ

Հունվարի 12-ին ուխտի Ս. Պատարագ մատուցվեց Չինսուրահի Ս. Հովհաննես Մկրտիչ հայոց եկեղեցում: Այն Արևմտյան Բենգալիա նահանգի երկրորդ ամենահին քրիստոնեական եկեղեցին էկառուցված 1695 թ.: Չնայած այլևս հայեր չեն ապրում այդ քաղաքում, սակայն տարվա ընթացքում պարբերաբար կատարվում են ուխտագնացություններ, այցելություններ: Պատարագիչն էր Տեր Արծրուն քահանա Միքայելյանը: Այս ուրախալի առիթով Կալկաթայի Ս. Նազարեթ հայոց եկեղեցուց դուրս էր բերվել նաև Հովհաննես Մկրտչի մասունքակիր սուրբ Աջը: Հավարտ Ս. Պատարագի հավատացյալները մոտեցան և համբուրեցին սրբազան մասունքը: Ուխտագնացությանը մասնակցում էին Կալկաթայի հայոց եկեղեցու վարչության անդամները, հնդկահայեր և Մարդասիրական ճեմարանի ուսուցիչներն ու սաները:
