Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council (FNC) Abdul Aziz Abdullah Al Ghurair and the Armenian ambassador to UAE Vahagn Melikian discussed on 25 August 2009 ways for enhancing relations and cooperation between the two countries, especially in the field of parliamentary affairs.
They also reviewed the mechanisms that guarantee the development of relations between UAE and Armenia in the avenues of tourism and investment by tapping the vast resources of both countries in these sectors.
Vahagn Melikyan conveyed Abdul Aziz Al Ghurair an invitation of the Speaker of Armenia?s parliament Hovik Abrahamyan to visit Armenia.
The officials touched upon the formation of parliamentary friendship groups, as well as deepening the bilateral relations. The Armenian diplomat presented Al Ghurair the main directions of foreign and regional policy of Armenia.
Al Ghurair stressed the interest of UAE in the development of multilateral relations with Armenia and the need to take effective steps in this direction. He shed light on the general elections made to the FNC in 2006 and the recent constitutional amendments, which gave the parliament more powers.
