Recently the number of Armenians residing in Qatar has witnessed a sharp increase due to new arrivals from Armenia and Diaspora, who are seeking for better economic conditions.
As there is no Armenian Church in Qatar, the members of the community are obliged to hold the Holy Mass ceremony in churches belonging to other Christian denominations, adjusting themselves to the timetables suggested by the hosts and to the schedule of the visiting priests from neighboring Armenian communities.
Two weeks after Christmas, the Armenians of Qatar had the chance to attend a Holy Mass ceremony in the Coptic Church conducted in the Armenian ritual.
Chairman of the National Council of Armenians of Qatar Mr. Arsen Halajian said: “In 2001, when there were no Christian places of worship in Qatar we used to celebrate Christmas and Easter Holy Masses in hotels. Nowadays, with the suggestion of Catholicos Aram I, Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia, and with the consent of the Pope of the Coptic Orthodox Church, Armenian Holy Mass is celebrated twice a year in the Coptic Church in Doha”.
Halajian explained that this arrangement will be continued until the construction of the Armenian church on a plot of land already promised by the His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, Ruler of Qatar, during Catholicos Aram's recent visit to Qatar (February 2011).
“Only with constant work, follow up and financial contribution, we will be able to see the materialization of this project”, he added.
The Holy Mass was presided by the Catholicosal Vicar of the Prelacy of Kuwait and Arabian Gulf countries His Eminence Bishop Shahe Panossian.
Following the Holy Mass, Bishop Panossian said: “Our Armenian community in Qatar is a newly formed one and is privileged to have members who are aware about their identity and traditions and who try to live their lives as Armenians. The Armenian Church, especially the Catholicosate of Cilicia with its mission of serving the people is present wherever there are Armenians”.
Bishop Panossian expressed belief that Qatari Armenians will be able to build their spiritual house, the place that will bring them all under one roof.
Parish priest of UAE Armenians Father Aram Deyirmendjian officiated the Holy Mass. In his sermon he emphasized that the birth of Christ is the birth of Christianity. A Christian is an individual who undertakes the duties and believes in the existence of God, he said, adding that Christianity is the way that leads to our second life after death.
Around 125 people attended the ceremony, although the number of Armenians in Qatar is estimated at least four times more. Some of the reasons of not attending are perhaps the lack of information, long distances from residences and miscommunication regarding the scheduled dates.
We are full of hope that in this community which is getting more organized day by day, and due to the diligent work of members who are aware about their national and religious obligations, the construction of the Armenian church will be launched soon, serving as a permanent house for all Armenians.

Վերջերս, տնտեսական պայմաններու բերումով Քաթար տեղափոխուած հայերը՝ ըլլայ Հայաստանէն թէ սփիւռքէն, արագընթաց թուաճ կ՛արձանագրեն։ Ուստի, երբ այստեղ տակաւին անգոյ է զիրենք մէկ յարկի տակ հաւաքող հայ եկեղեցին, անոնք հարկադրուած են հայերէնահունչ իրենց պատարագը մատուցել այլ քրիստոնեայ համայնքի մը եկեղեցւոյ մէջ, յարմարելով՝ մէկ կողմէ այդ եկեղեցւոյ պարագաներուն ու միւս կողմէ համայնքը այցելող եւ օրուայ պատարագը մատուցող հոգեւոր հովիւներու կարելիութիւններուն։
Սուրբ Ծնունդէն երկու շաբաթներ յետոյ էր միայն, որ Քաթարի հայերը կրցան նոյն առիթով պատարագ մատուցել զիրենք ջերմապէս հիւրընկալող Քաթարի Ղպտի Համայնքի եկեղեցւոյ մէջ։
Ազգային Վարչութեան Ատենապետ՝ Տիար Արսէն Հալաճեան բացատրեց, թէ 2001 թուականին, երբ տակաւին եկեղեցական կառոյցներ չկային, հայեր տարին երկու առիթներով՝ Սուրբ Ծննդեան եւ Սուրբ Յարութեան, պատարագ կը կատարէին պանդոկներու մէջ։
Ներկայիս, Մեծի Տանն Կիլիկիոյ Արամ Ա. Կաթողիկոսի առաջարկով ու Ղպտիներու Պապին վաւերացումով, տարին երկու անգամ պատարագ կը մատուցուի Ղպտիներու եկեղեցւոյ մէջ։
Ան նաեւ յստակացուց, թէ այս մէկը պիտի շարունակուի մինչեւ հայ եկեղեցիի մը կառուցումը, որուն հողատարածքի խոստումը տրուեցաւ Քաթարի Իշխան Շէյխ Համատ Պըն Խալիֆա Ալթանիի կողմէ՝ Վեհափառ Հայրապետին, վերջինին 2011 թուականի Փետրուար ամսուան ընթացքին Քաթար պաշտօնական այցի ժամանակ։
Հետեւաբար, միայն աշխատանքով, հետապնդումով ու նիւթական ներդրումներով է, որ կարելի է պատուած տեսնել մեր եկեղեցական կառոյցը։

Պատարագի աւարտին ան փոխանցեց, թէ Քաթարի հայ համայնքը նոր ձեւաւորուող համայնք մըն է, ու այստեղ կան հայորդիներ, որոնք գիտակից իրենց ինքնութեան եւ աւանդոյթներուն, կը փորձեն հայօրէն ապրիլ իրենց կեանքը։
Ինչպէս նաեւ, հայ եկեղեցին, յատկապէս Մեծի Տանն Կիլիկիոյ Կաթողիկոսութիւնը, իբրեւ ծառայական առաքելութիւն, իր հոգեւորականներու միջոցաւ, հոն է ուր կայ հայ ժողովուրդը։
Ան հաստատեց, թէ ինք հաւատացող է եւ յոյսով, որ վերջապէս Քաթարի հայ գաղութն ալ իր համայնական եւ հոգեւոր տունը պիտի կառուցէ մէկտեղուելու անոր երդիքին տակ։
Պատարագին նաեւ իր սիրալիր մասնակցութիւնը բերաւ Արաբական Միացեալ Էմիրութիւններու հայ համայնքի հոգեւոր հովիւ, Արժանապատիւ Արամ Քահանայ Տէյիրմէնճեանը, որ իր կարգին մաղթեց, որ Քրիստոսի ծնունդը ըլլայ ծնունդը քրիստոնէութեան, որովհետեւ քրիստոնեան այն մարդն է, որ արդարօրէն կը կատարէ իր յանձնարարութիւնները, հաւատալով Աստուծոյ գոյութեան։ Նաեւ մաղթեց, որ Քրիստոնէութիւնը բոլորիս համար ըլլայ մահուընէ վերստին կեանքի վերադառնալու տօն։
Արարողութեան ներկայ գտնուեցան մօտաւորապէս 125 հայորդիներ, հակառակ որ համայնքին թիւը այսօր առնուազն յիշեալ թիւին քառապատիկն է։ Պատճառը կը կայանայ երբեմն չտեղեկացուելու, երբեմն ճանապարհներու հեռաւորութեան ու առիթը ճիշդ թուականին չյիշուելու մէջ։
Յոյսով ենք, թէ օրէ օր ալ աւելի կազմակերպուող ու ձեւաւորուող այս հայկական համայնքը, շնորհիւ իր ազգային ու եկեղեցական պարտականութեան գիտակից զաւակներուն, մօտ ապագային իրեն շնորհուած հողատարածքին վրայ պիտի կառուցէ իր մնայուն տունը՝ հայ եկեղեցին։
