Saturday 3rd November 2007 at 1.00 pm, the historic consecration of a Khatchkar will take place in Cardiff (Wales, United Kingdom), in the presence of dignitaries and communities from three countries.

?

The khatchkar is 6 foot high, weighs 2.5 tons and has inscriptions in Welsh, Armenian and English on a stone chosen to closely match tufa.

?

Wales has distinguished itself by being the first country within the United Kingdom to recognise the Armenian Genocide at both national and regional levels.

?

This event is unique for a number of reasons.

?

This is the first time a plot of land has been allocated in a public area within the United Kingdom for a memorial to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

?

The stone is Welsh, the design is Armenian, the stonemason is Welsh and the inscription is by the hand of a Bishop of the Armenian Apostolic Church.

?

The religious dedication will be by His Grace Bishop Nathan Hovhannisian, with supporting clergy and choir.

?

This will be followed by a reception in the Temple of Peace in whose grounds the Khatchkar will be located.

?

In recognition of this unprecedented gesture, Bishop Nathan Hovhannisian will be presenting a gift of a marble cross to Lord Dafydd Elis-Thomas, the Presiding Officer of the National Assembly of Wales.

?

All the churches in Wales will be represented at the ceremony.

?

Please pencil in your attendance for the special day. The cultural side will involve the Akhtamar Dance Group and Welsh choirs. Buses will be organised from London with priority given to the elderly and children (more details to follow). This is the day to be present with youR children and grand-children.

?

Cardiff and its surrounding area has many attractions so consider a full day or even a weekend to coincide with this consecrotion.
