Representatives of the Christian churches in Egypt had an official meeting with the President-elect Mohamed Morsi on 27th June 2012 in the Presidential Palace in Heliopolis.
The meeting was attended by Bishop Ashot Mnatsakanyan, Prelate of the Armenian Diocese in Egypt and Bishop Kricor-Okosdinos (Augustin) Coussa, Bishop of Alexandria of Armenian Catholics.
During the meeting Reverend Safwat Bayadi, President of the Protestant Churches of Egypt, expressed appreciation to the President-elect Morsi for his first speech after winning the elections, in which he had mentioned that Egypt will be a constitutional democracy. Bayadi stressed that this approach will signal a new phase of developed communication between Christians and Muslims in the country.
Yasser Ali, acting Presidential spokesman, said that during the meeting the President-elect underlined the importance of national unity as a priority on his agenda. He said that the slogan “Our strength, in our unity”, which was raised during the presidential campaign, is something that the Presidents believes in it firmly.
The joint circular issued by the Armenian Orthodox and Catholic churches in Egypt mentioned that the meeting took place in a very warm atmosphere and the impressions were very positive (see text of the joint declaration in Armenian below).
“The President-elect clearly mentioned that this kind of meetings would take place repeatedly in the future and that he will continue to keep warm relations with all the Christian communities. He also mentioned that all the Egyptians will be acting as one hand for the prosperity of Egypt. He expressed readiness to listen to the issues and suggestions related to the Christian communities and to proceed in solving them”, said Bishop Mnatsakanyan to Armaveni.com, the Egyptian Armenian online publication.
President-elect Mohamed Morsi, 60, is an architect, who was heading the Muslim Brotherhood movement before resigning from that post after winning the recent elections in Egypt with the consent of 51.7% of the voters during the second phase of the elections, from 16-17 June 2012.
Representatives of the Syriac, Greek, Latin, Maronite, Anglican, Episcoal and Adventist Churches also attended the meeting. Earlier, on 26 June 2012, President-elect Morsi met with a delegation of the Coptic Orthodox Church headed by the Acting Patriarch Bishop Pachomius.

Չորեքշաբթի, 27 Յունիս 2012 կ.ա. ժամը 11։30-ին, Հելիոպոլսոյ նախագահական պալատին մէջ, Եգիպտոսի Ընտրեալ Նախագահ Դոկտ. Մոհամէտ Մորսի ընդունեց Եգիպտոսի քրիստոնեայ համայնքներու առաջնորդները։
Ներկաներուն շարքին էին նաեւ Եգիպտահայոց Թեմի Առաջնորդ Գերաշնորհ Տ. Աշոտ Եպիսկոպոս Մնացականեան եւ Եգիպտոսի Հայ Կաթողիկէ Առաջնորդ Գրիգոր Օգոստինոս Գուսան Եպիսկոպոսը։
Ընդունելութիւնը տեղի ունեցաւ ջերմ մթնոլորտի մը մէջ, որուն ընթացքին, ի շարս այլոց, Առաջնորդ Սրբազան Հայրերը շնորհաւորանքներ եւ բարեմաղթանքներ փոխանցեցին յանուն զոյգ հայ համայնքներուն, եկեղեցիներուն եւ համայնքային միութիւններուն։
Ընտրեալ Նախագահ Դոկտ. Մոհամէտ Մորսի ողջունեց ներկաները եւ շնորհակալութիւն յայտնեց այցելութեան եւ շնորհաւորանքներուն համար։
Ան յատկապէս նշեց թէ ջերմ յարաբերութիւններ պիտի պահէ քրիստոնեայ բոլոր համայնքներուն հետ՝ ապագային եւս շարունակելով նման հանդիպումները, ինչպէս նաեւ ընդառաջէ իրենց կողմէ ներկայացուելիք բոլոր հարցերուն։
