Translators' Day at the Armenian College & Philanthropic Academy in Kolkata, India

On 14 October 2006 the Armenian College & Philanthropic Academy (ACPA) celebrated on a grand scale the Translators? Day (Tarkmanchats), which is dedicated to the invention of the Armenian Alphabet and to those who participated in the translation of the Old and New Testaments. There was an atmosphere of jubilation at the College. It was for the first time in ten years that the ?Tarkmanchats Ton? was being celebrated appropriately.

Following was the message of ?Tarkmanchats? to the students of the ACPA; Love your mother tongue. Strengthen yourselves with the faith of your forefathers and remain loyal to the immense heritage left by them.

After the Lord?s Prayer, Mrs. Grata Andreasian, the Head of the Armenian language and literature and also the organiser of the event, introduced the history of the invention of the Armenian Alphabet, referring to the enormous work done by the ?Translators?. She underlined the importance of preserving the purity of the Armenian Language, which could be done by penetrating the depths of the language, learning its secrets and beauty. She advised the students to never forget the ?Will? left by the famous poetess Silva Kapoutikian. (in her poem entitled ?Message to My Son? S. Kapoutikian wrote as follows; ?Even if you forget your own mother, do not forget your mother tongue?).

Students of the ACPA read quotations from various famous Armenian and non-Armenian scholars about the Armenian language and recited poems dedicated to the mother tongue. Far away from Fatherland, once again the sweet sounds of our language filled the hearts and minds of the audience.

The choir conducted by Vachakan Tatevossian, music teacher of the ACPA rendered a number of beautiful Armenian songs.

Very Rev. Father Oshagan Gulgulian, Manager of the ACPA, thanked the organisers of the event and expressed his satisfaction that at last, this 185 year old institution is gradually re-establishing its forgotten good old traditions. Father Gulgulian emphasised the importance of mastering the Armenian language, in order to be able to communicate with the vision of the ?Translators?.

The function was attended by the committee members of the Armenian Church, a group of ex-students from Sweden, Indian Armenians and the students of the ACPA.

ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATIONS IN KOLKATA, INDIA

The Armenian Holy Church of Nazareth and the Armenian College & Philanthropic Academy are happy to announce that 2006 will see a double Anniversary for the Calcutta Armenians since it is the 185th Anniversary of the ACPA and the Centenary celebrations of St. Gregory?s Church.

On this auspicious occasion, special functions are being planned and organized by the Armenian Church and the ACPA from 10th to 14th November 2006. During this time, cultural programmes as well as religious celebrations will be held. There will also be a pilgrimage to Armenian Holy Church of Nazareth, St. Gregory?s, St. John?s, Chinsurah and St. Mary?s, Saidabad Churches.

Ս. Թարգմանչաց տոնը Հայոց Մարդասիրական ճեմարանում

Հոկտեմբերի 14-ին Կալկաթայի Հայոց Մարդասիրական ճեմարանում մեծ շուքով նշվեց Ս. Թարգմանչաց տոնը: Աննախադեպ խանդավառություն էր տիրում ճեմարանականների շրջանում, քանզի վերջին տասնամյակում առաջին անգամ էր հավուր պատշաճի նշվում նվիրական այս տոնը: Այն պատգամում էր ճեմարանականներին` սիրելու ոսկեղենիկ մեր Մայրենի լեզուն` վերջինիս միջոցով ամուր կառչելով մեր երանելի նախնիների աներեր հավատքին` հավատարիմ մնալով նրանց թողած հսկայական ժառանգությանն ու ավանդին:

The Armenian Translators' Day celebrated in Kokata, India Միջոցառումն սկսվեց միասնական “Տերունական աղոթքով”, որից հետո ներկաներին դիմեց միջոցառման կազմակերպիչ, ճեմարանի հայոց լեզվի և գրականության ուսուցիչ Տիկին Գրետա Անդրեասյանը: Նա անդրադարձավ գրերի գյուտի ստեղծման պատմությանը, Ս. Թարգմանիչների սխրանքին, Հայոց լեզվի անաղարտության պահպանման կարևորությանը` ճեմարանականներին հորդորելով առանց վարանելու և անվախ թափանցելու մեր լեզվի գաղտնիքների մեջ, անտրտունջ ուսումնասիրելու այն` երբեք չմոռանալով և միշտ հիշելով ոչ մի դեպքում Մայրենի լեզուն չմոռանալու հայ մեծ բանաստեղծուհու` Սիլվա Կապուտիկյանի կտակի մասին:

Հանդիսության ժամանակ ճեմարանականները մեջբերեցին հայ և օտար հեղինակների ասույթները Հայոց լեզվի մասին, ասմունքեցին և գովերգեցին Մայրենի լեզվի մասին` Հայրենիքից այդքան հեռու` Հնդկաստանի հյուրընկալ հողում, մեկ անգամ ևս հնչեցնելով մեսրոպաբարբառ և քաղցրաբարբառ մեր լեզուն: Հանդիսությունն ընդմիջարկվում էր ճեմարանի երաժշտության ուսուցիչ Տիար Վաչագան Թադևոսյանի գլխավորությամբ ճեմարանի երգչախմբի ելույթներով:

Հանդիսության ավարտին եզրափակիչ խոսքով հանդես եկավ ճեմարանի կառավարիչ Տ. Օշական վրդ. Գյուլգյուլյանը: Նա շնորհակալություն հայտնեց միջոցառման կազմակերպիչներին` ընդգծելով այն ուրախությունը, որ կամաց–կամաց 185-ամյա կրթական հաստատության մեջ վերականգնվում են նախկին բարի ավանդույթները: Հայր Սուրբը միաժամանակ շեշտեց մեր լեզվին քաջ տիրապետելու անհրաժեշտության մասին, որով հայ մարդն իրական հաղորդակցության մեջ է մտնում Ս. Թարգմանիչ վարդապետների տեսիլքի և հայ մարդու անպարտելի ոգու զորության հետ:
