Yezidis living in Armenia

In the below article we would refer to some of the issues that concern the Yezidis as one of the national minorities in Armenia.

The Yezidis migrated to Armenia about 300 years ago from the current territory of Iraq, escaping persecutions.

Yezidis live today in Armenia concentrated in Aragatsotn and Armavir provinces and in the cities of Gyumri and Yerevan. Those living in the provinces are mainly engaged in animal husbandry.

According to Aziz Tamoyan, President of the ?Yezidi Union?, Yezidis in Armenia are able to organize their national and cultural life freely. In recent years much work has been done to teach the Yezidi language. Textbooks for grades 1-7 have been published with government aid.

It should be noted that in the whole region of the Caucasus only in Armenia the Yezidis have their own worshiping place, which is located in the village of Shamiram in Aragatsotn province.

The Chief Editor of ?Yezidi Voice? publication and distinguished journalist of the Republic of Armenia Hassan Tamoyan, points out to the fact that recently there have been efforts to introduce the Yezidis as Kurds. For example, twenty two Yezidi villages were introduced as Kurdish villages in a report prepared by the EU last May.

The Yezidis are offended by the indifference against them. They mention with pride that one of their most worthy sons Jhangir Agha has fought with his several hundreds soldiers in Sardarapat and Bash-Aparan battles side by side with the Armenians against the invading Turks. In the Karabakh war, the Yezidi nation has given more than 30 victims, but these are not mentioned in history textbooks nor do the media mention it when referring to the events of that period.

Nonetheless, the Yezidis insist that there are no obstacles whatsoever in Armenia to preserve their national and religious traditions.

Հայաստանում բնակվող ազգային փոքրամասնություններից այս անգամ կանդրադառնանք եզդիների առօրյաին եվ իրենց հուզող խնդիրներին:

Նախ սկսենք նրանից, որ եզդիները պատմական Հայաստանի տարածք են գաղթել մոտ 300 տարի առաջ այժմյան Իրաքի տարածքից խուսափելով մուսուլմանների հալածանքներից:

Այսօր եզդիները Հայաստանում կոմպակտ ձեվով բնակվում են Արագածոտնի եվ Արմավիրի մարզերում, Երեվան եվ Գյումրի քաղաքներում:

Մարզերում բնակվող եզդիները հիմնականում զբաղվում են անասնապահությամբ:

Ինչպես հավաստում է ?Եզդիների միության? նախագահ Ազիզ Թամոյանը Հայաստանում  եզդիները կարողանում են կազմակերպել ազգային մշակույթային կյանքը: Վերջին տարիներին մեծ աշխատանք է կատարվել եզդերեն լեզվի ուսուցման գործում` տպագրվել են 1-7-րդ դասարանների համար դասագրքեր` պետական աջակցությամբ:

Նշենք նաեվ, որ Անդրկովկասում միայն Հայաստանում է, որ կառուցվել է եզդիների կրոնական տաճար, որը գտնվում է Արագածոտնի մարզի Շամիրամ գյուղում:

?Եզդիների ձայն? խմբագրության ղեկավար, Հ.Հ. վաստակավոր լրագրող Հասան Թամոյանը Հայաստանում եզդիների համար որպես խնդիր նկատում է այն հանգամանքը, որ վերջին ժամանակներս եզդիներին փորձում են ներկայացնել որպես քրդեր, որի վառ ապացույցը մայիսին ԵՄ-ում եզդիական 22 գյուղերը որպես քրդական գյուղեր ներկայացնելն է: Ինչպես նաեվ եզդիները իրենց համար վիրավորական են համարում անտարբերությունը` նշելով, որ եզդի ազգի արժանավոր զավակ Ջհանգիր Աղան իր հարյուրավոր զինվորներով կռվել է Սարդարապատի, Բաշ-Ապարանի մարտերում հայերի հետ մեկտեղ, որ Ղարաբաղյան պատերազմում եզդի ազգը տվել է ավելի քան 30 զոհ, այս ամենի մասին ոչ մի անգամ չեն հիշատակվում ոչ պատմության դասագրքում, ոչ էլ ԶԼՄ-ների տվյալ ժամանակաշրջանի անրադարձերում:

Այս ամենի հետ մեկտեղ եզդիները պնդում են, որ Հայաստանում ոչ մի խոչնդոտ չկա, իրենց ազգային, կրոնական ավանդույթները, ծիսակարգերը պահպանելու գործում:
