Azad-Hye interviews Araik Danielyan, participant of “Birthright Armenia” (Depi Hayk) volunteer program, resident of Russia.
Araik was born in Yerevan. He was just 3 years old when his family moved to Moscow. He graduated from the Russian Customs Academy, but has worked in an advertising agency, making video clips and writing scripts. He has received requests for recording audio books.
It is the first time that Araik participated in the “Birthright Armenia” program, but this was not his first visit to the country of his ancestors. Since many of the participants are visiting Armenia for the first time, it is important to live with local hosting families, he says.
The program included weekly excursions to different places. They stayed 4 days in Artsakh (Karabakh), carrying back with them unforgettable impressions. They celebrated the Vardavar (traditional festival in Armenia where people drench each other with water) in the town of Chinchin in Tavush Province in the North-East of Armenia. During their trips they had the opportunity to meet officials from Armenia and Artsakh.
Araik wishes that many young Armenians living in Russia are introduced to this program. He is very active himself, taking different initiatives and hoping that no one misses such opportunities. Besides getting involved in specific projects, the participating young people enjoy their free time with different entertainment and fun activities. They also attend Armenian language lessons.
-Araik, what do you think about the Armenian language course?
I am very much satisfied with the course. We are instructed by language experts. Many participants feel remarkable progress in using Armenian language in relatively short time.
-What do you wish to see changed in Armenia and what you hope to remain without change?
I would like to see the people more free in the way they think. For example, if a girl in Armenia wants to be singer, she gets first concerned about what the neighbors would be thinking about her. I would like to see this attitude changed and people more free in pursuing their dreams. This is very acute here: either they are restricted or completely free. You see two kinds of extremes.
-Except of the volunteer work that you have been doing, do you have any other ideas or programs in mind?
I have always wanted to come to Armenia not just like a tourist, rather in a way that means something to me. I have been visiting Armenia for short breaks every summer in the last six years. Yes, I love Armenia, but now I realized that until now I was acting like a tourist. This time however, I planned to turn my visit into a meaningful act. There is a meaning in my volunteer work related to the future. I wish to create permanent bond with Armenia and live here forever and start my own business here.
-Are you ready to overcome the difficulties usually associated with such a move?
Yes, of course. I am aware that nothing comes easy. It is necessary to fight for what we want.
-What do you consider as your profession?
At the time being I cannot say with certainty what my present profession is, because I am in constant search. I want to explore myself and see how I can function in different capacities. This is why I am trying different kinds of work.
-Patriotism is a hot topic. What does it mean to you?
Since young age I was used to think that Armenia is not the place where you just go for few days and then leave. I have been reading about Armenia's history and culture since I was 16 years old. This includes also literature. I feel that this is my own country, and not Russia. Everything here is quite close to my heart.

Արայիկ Դանիելյան. Այս անգամ ցանկացա Հայաստան գալս իմաստալից լիներ

?Ազատ Հայ?-ի զրուցակիցն է ?Դեպի Հայք? կամավորական ծրագրի մասնակից, ռուսաստանաբնակ Արայիկ Դանիելյանը:
Ծնվել է Երեւանում, 3 տարեկան է եղել, երբ ընտանիքը տեղափոխվել է Մոսկվա: Ավարտել է Ռուսաստանի Մաքսային Ակադեմիան, բայց ներկայում գովազդային գործակալությունում է աշխատում, զբաղվում է գովազդների, հոլովակների նկարահանմամբ, սցենարներ է գրում: Առաջարկել են նաեւ այլ աշխատանք. աուդիո գրքեր ձայնագրել: Առաջին անգամ է մասնակցում ?Դեպի Հայք? ծրագրին, սակայն առաջին անգամը չէ, որ հայրենիքում է: Ասում է. քանի որ ծրագրի մասնակիցներից շատերն առաջին անգամ եմ Հայաստանում, շատ կարեւոր է, որպեսզի ապրեն հյուրընկալ ընտանիքներում, այստեղի ժողովրդի հետ:
Ամեն շաբաթ գնում են էքսկուրսիա տարբեր վայրեր: 4 օրով եղել են Արցախում եւ անմոռանալի տպավորություններով վերադարձել, Տավուշի մարզի Չինչին գյուղում էլ տոնել են Վարդավառը: Ժամանակ առ ժամանակ հանդիպում են Հայաստանի եւ Արցախի տարբեր պաշտոնյաների հետ:
Արայիկը շատ է ցանկանում, որ ռուսաստանաբնակ երիտասարդներից շատերն իմանան այս ծրագրի մասին եւ անպայման գան, մասնակցեն: Ինքն ակտիվ է ու նախաձեռնող, ուզում է, որ մյուսներն էլ այդպիսին լինեն եւ առիթը բաց չթողնեն տեսնելու հայրենիքը: Բացի աշխատանքը, հետաքրքիր է անցնում նաեւ երիտասարդների ժամանցը: Նշում է նաեւ, որ ծրագրի շրջանակում հայերենի դասեր են անցնում:
-Արայիկ, գո՞հ ես հայոց լեզվի դասընթացից:
Այո, շատ: Մեզ դասավանդում են այստեղի մասնագետները, որոնք շատ լավն են եւ մասնակիցների մեծ մասը շատ արագ բարելավում է մայրենին:
-Իսկ Հայաստանում ի՞նչը կուզեիր նույնը մնար եւ ի՞նչը փոխվեր:
Կուզեի, որ մարդիկ ավելի ազատ լինեին իրենց մտածելակերպի մեջ: Օրինակ եթե մի աղջիկ այստեղ ուզում է երգչուհի դառնալ, միանգամից մտածում է, թե ինչ կմտածեն իր մասին հարեւանները: Կուզեի, որ դա փոխվեր, ավելի ազատ լինեին, իրենց երազանքների ետեւից գնային: Այստեղ այդ հարցը շատ կտրուկ է, ծայրահեղ. կամ շատ սահմանափակված են, կամ շատ ազատ:
-Բացի կամավորական աշխատանքից, այլ մտքեր, ծրագրեր ունե՞ս:
Ես միշտ ցանկացել եմ գալ Հայաստան ոչ թե որպես զբոսաշրջիկ, այլ իմ այցելությունը իմաստ ունենար: Վերջին 6 տարիներին ամեն ամառ եկել եմ այստեղ կարճ ժամանակով: Այո, ես սիրում եմ Հայաստանը, բայց հիմա եմ հասկանում, որ մինչեւ օրս եկել եմ պարզապես որպես զբոսաշրջիկ: Այս անգամ ցանկացա գալս իմաստալից լիներ: Իմաստ կա, որ որպես կամավոր եմ աշխատում, իմաստ կա ապագայիս համար: Ես շատ կուզենայի Հայաստանի հետ կապ ունենալ, անգամ կուզեի մշտական բնակություն հաստատել այստեղ եւ սեփական գործ ունենալ:
-Իսկ պատրա՞ստ ես հաղթահարելու դժվարությունները, որոնք սովորաբար լինում են նոր գործ սկսելուց:
Իհարկե, ոչ մի տեղ որեւէ բան հեշտ չի ստացվում: Պետք է պայքարել:
-Ո՞րն ես քեզ համար հիմնական աշխատանք համարում:
Հիմա համոզված չեմ կարող ասել, որովհետեւ անընդհատ փնտրտուքի մեջ եմ, ուզում եմ փորձել ինձ տարբեր ասպարեզներում ու տարբեր աշխատանքներ եմ կատարում:
-Շատերն են հայրենասիրությունից խոսում, ի՞նչ է դա քեզ համար:
Ես պատանեկան տարիքից սկսել եմ մտածել, որ Հայաստանն այն տեղը չի, ուր գնաս միայն մի քանի օրով ու ետ դառնաս: 16 տարեկանից սկսել եմ գրքեր կարդալ Հայաստանի պատմության, մշակույթի մասին, նաեւ`գեղարվեստական գրականություն: Ես զգում եմ, որ սա է իմ երկիրը, ո՛չ թե Ռուսաստանը: Այստեղ ինձ համար ամեն ինչ հարազատ է:
