Recently a new library has opened on the Amiryan Street in Yerevan. Below is an interview with the Holy See Library manager, Karapet Hakobyan:
– A book is an important concept. A book is like the birth of a human being, with one difference, that a human?s birth takes time but a book can be born in a day; it’s a great deal of energy.
The library opens everyday from 10:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.
This location has been chosen upon a decision by the Catholicos, because it’s right in the centre of the city.
Our plan extends beyond this one single library; we would like to establish as many libraries as possible, not only in the other locations in the capital, but also in the regions.
Our books range from children’s books to books on the history of the Church, national books, books on philosophy and history, also professional catalogues containing great artists’ works, etc.
Of course there are books, which are not in display at the moment, since the library is new and we cannot display everything at once, but if the readers would like to have a certain book, we can provide it in the near future.
Regarding the sales, I believe that our prices are reasonable, starting from 120 drams to 30.000 drams. As for the books published by the Holy See, we have specified lower prices than they are worth. For example, a book that’s worth 600 drams is being sold for 250 drams only, so that it would be accessible to all.
Despite the fact that the library has opened recently, I can’t complain of the results, although the sales are not that big, but many people are interested in it, which suffices for now. One book that is frequently asked for

is Grigor Narekatsi’s (or Krikor Naregatsi) “Book of Lamenations”.
I consider it normal to benefit from the modern technologies, but you cannot find everything in there, plus, we have books that you cannot find anywhere else.
This library is so important for the locals, because through it we are trying to improve love towards books in this society.
I consider the Armenian society to be a book-loving society, it’s in our genes. Yes, we had a little setback, but this is one way through which we can help revive it.
As for the Diaspora Armenians, this is also important, because here they can find any book they want on the history of Armenia, in addition to publications by different authors. As I mentioned earlier, we have books that you cannot find anywhere else, and we have worked so hard to make everything consistent, both in quality and sales aspects.
We have good connections with Armenians from the Diaspora. We communicate with publishing houses in Syria and Lebanon. Sometimes if needed, we even ask for books to be sent from there. We try to coordinate with all, so we won’t displease any customer, also to reinforce our Armenian spirit in the Diaspora.
I call everyone to at least come and take a look and leaf through some books, that’s also an important factor, because you can get information even by doing so, says Karapet Hakobyan.
We salute this endeavor, because it is one of those achievements that will help find a book-loving society and reinforce the relations between Armenia and the Diaspora.

Երևանում` Ամիրյան փողոցի վրա, վերջերս բացվել է նոր գրատուն, իսկ ավելի մանրամասն այս թեմայով www.azad-hye.net– կայքը ձեզ է ներկայացնում Մայր Աթոռի գրատան տնօրեն Կարապետ Հակոբյանի հետ զրույցը:
– Գիրքը կարևոր հասկացողություն է, գիրքը բնության` մարդու ծննդի նման բան է, այն տարբերությամբ, որ մարդուն, կենդանուն ժամանակ ունի ծնվելուն գիրքը կարող է ծնվել մեկ օրում, դա մի ամբողջ էներգիա է, և մարդը պետք վերցնի դա:
Գրատունը բաց է ամեն oր, ժամը 10-ից մինչև 7.30 կես, իսկ տարածքի առումով ընտրել ենք այստեղ, քանի որ սա նաև հանդիսանում է կենտրոնական հատված, այդ իսկ պատճառով, գրատունը բացվեց հենց այստեղ` Վեհափառի որոշմամբ:
Մեր ծրագրի մեջ է մտնում նաև, բազմացնել այս միտքը, այսինքն հիմնել գրատներ, ոչ միայն մայրաքաղաքի մյուս հատվածներում, այլև մարզերում:
Գրքերը տարբեր են սկսած մանկական գրքերից, եկեղեցու պատմությունից, կան ազգային, փիլիսոփայական, խոհափիլիսոփայական, պատմական, գրքեր, նկարիչների մասնագիտական կատալօգներ, ալբոմներ և այլն:
Իհարկե կան նաև այլ գրքեր որոնք այժմ ցուցադրված չեն, քանի որ նորաբաց է, հնարավոր չէր բոլորը ցուցադրել, սակայն եթե մեր ընթերցողները ինչ որ գիրք են ուզում մենք կարող ենք հետագայում տրամադրել:
Գնային առումով կարծում եմ մեզ մոտ մատչելի է, գները սկսում են հարույր քսան դրամից մինչև երեսուն հազար դրամ, սակայն մենք Մայր Աթոռի հրատարակած գրքերի գները դրել ենք իրենց ինքնարժեքից ցածր, օրինակ վեցհարույր դրամ արժողությամբ գիրքը մենք վաճառում ենք երկուհարյուր հիսուն դրամ, որպեսզի հասու լինի շատերին:
Չնայած նրան որ նորաբաց է, դժգոհ չեմ արդյունքներից, թեկուզ դեռ վաճառքը շատ մեծ չէ, բայց մարդկանց արդեն հետաքիրքիր է, այս փասը ինձ շատ է ուրախացնում:
Հատկապես շատ են հարցնում Գրիգոր Նարեկացու Մատյան Ողբերգությունը:
Ժամանակակից տեխնելոգիաներից օգտվելը նույնպես նորմալ եմ համարում, սակայն, ամեն ինչ չէ, որ կարող է այնտեղ գտնել, այս տարբերությամբ, մեզ մոտ կան գրքեր որ միայն մենք ունենք:
Գրատունը տեղացիների համար այնքանով է կարևոր, որ սրանով մենք փորձում ենք զարգացնել հասարակության մեջ սեր դեպի գիրքը.
Ես Հայ հասարակությանը ընթերցասեր եմ համարում, մեր գեների մեջ դա կա, ուղղակի որոշակի հետընթաց է ապրել, և սա կարծում եմ այն կարևոր միջոցն է որով պետք օժանդակել դրա արթնացմանը: Իսկ սփուռքահայերի համար կարևոր է այնքանով, որ նրանք այստեղ կարող են գտնել ցանակցած գիրք վերաբերող Հայաստանի պատմությանը, տարբեր գրողների աշխատություններ, չէ որ ինչպես վերը նշեցի կան գրքեր որ միայն մեզ մոտ կան, և դրանց վրա մենք շատ ենք աշխատել, որպեսզի ամեն ինչ լինի համահուչ թե որակի և թե գնային առումով:
Մենք նաև սերտ կապի մեջ ենք սփյուռքի հետ: Համագործակցում ենք Սիրիայից, Բեյրույթի հրատարակչությունների հետ: Եթե գիրք է անհրաժեշտ այնտեղից մենք դա բերում ենք: Եվ փորձում ենք բոլորի հետ կորդիանացիոն դիրք գրավել, ոչ մի հաճախորդի դժգոհ չթողելու, նաև մեր հայ հոգին սփուռքում ավելի ամրապնդելու համար:
Կոչ եմ անում բոլորին եթե ոչ առնել գոնե մտնել և թերթել՝ դա ևս կարևոր հանգամանք է, ինչից կարելի է ինֆորմացիա ստանալ, իր խոսքում նշեց Կարապետ Հակոբյանը:
Մնում է միայն ողջունել այս առիթը, քանի որ սա նաև այն կարևոր ձեռբերումներից է, որը կօժանդակի ընթերցասեր հասարակության հիմնմանը, սփուռք և Հայաստան կապի ամրապնդմանը:
