The Syrians witnessed the Ottoman atrocities and the sufferings that befall on both the Armenian and the local Arab population. This fact had led the researcher to examine more than 30 Syrian political publications, collecting and analyzing relevant information.
Many Syrian writers, journalists and columnists have found it imperative to describe those atrocious events, the last episodes of which occurred on Syrian itself (Der Ez-zor, Margada, Maskana and other places evoke awful feelings among the Armenians).
This book is a logical continuation of another book by the same author published in the year 2002 and carried the title: “The atrocities of the Armenians in the Syrian mind. The position of the Syrian Intellectuals toward the Armenian genocide”.

There are revealing articles describing how Armenians were tortured during their deportation trail to the Syrian wasteland. It is worth mentioning that the local Arab population protected the unlucky refugees and tried to save as many souls as they could, by offering shelter and means of survival.
Dr. Arissian notes that the Syrian periodicals did not hesitate to name what was happening as “Genocide” (as early as 1916), besides other expressions such as “extermination”, “uprooting of the race”, “annihilation”, etc.

أصداء الإبادة الأرمنية في الصحافة السورية

توطَّدت علاقات الصداقة العربية ـ الأرمنية أكثر بعد عمليات الإبادة التي تمت نتيجة سياسة التتريك ضد الأرمن، وبعد أن وجد الأرمن الناجون من الإبادة الملجأ الآمن لهم في سوريا، وبعد أن أبدى الشعب العربي معاملة الأخ لأخيه الإنسان.
لقد عكفت الدكتورة نورا أريسيان على دراسة الصحف السورية من أجل البحث عن الأصداء التي تركتها أحداث إبادة الأرمن على صفحات تلك الصحف، فهذه المواد الموثقة تعطي في الوقت نفسه صورة صادقة عن طبيعة موقف السوريين من معاناة الأرمن.
وتعتبر هذه الدراسة ـ وهي جزء من اطروحة دكتوراه قدمت في أكاديمية العلوم الوطنية في أرمينيا ـ أول محاولة لتقديم الإبادة الأرمنية من هذا المنظور الجديد.
والجدير ذكره أن رأي السوريين المسجل عبر صحافتهم غير معروف من قبل الرأي العام. فقد قامت الباحثة بعملية استقصاء لجميع الصحف السورية التي أوردت أخباراً ومقالات حول الأرمن والتي صدرت أعدادها بين عامي 1877 ـ 1930، غالبيتها من الجرائد السياسية، من بينها (الأمة) و(ألف باء) و(العاصمة) و(المقتبس) التي تعتبر تغطيتها استثنائية، وجرائد صدرت في المهجر أهمها (الأفكار) و(المستقبل) وغيرها.
شاءت الباحثة السورية من أصل أرمني أن تهدي الكتاب إلى رجال الصحافة والفكر، إلى أصحاب القلم والكلمة، وإلى الصحافيين العرب السوريين الذين خطوا قلمهم ليظهروا الحقيقة إلى النور. وقام بكتابة المقدمة د. صابر فلحوط رئيس الاتحاد العام للصحافيين في سوريا تحت عنوان ?عندما يتكلم التاريخ?.عمدت د. أريسيان في الفصل الأول إلى إعطاء لمحة عن الصحافة السورية وعلاقة الأرمن بها في فَترة السلطان عبد الحميد والاتحاديين وعن أهميةِ الصحافة السورية نِسبة إلى موضوع الأرمن.
وبعد ذلك عمدت إلى طرح تفاصيل أحوال الأرمن وتهجيرهم وتعدادهم خلال الفترة بين عامي 1877 ـ 1915 كما جاءت كمادة صحافية في الصحف السورية.
ثم قامت بتوضيح موقف السوريين من حوادث الأرمن ومن سياسة التتريك المتَّبعة ضدهم بناء على كتابات روّاد الصحافة السوريين. وفي القسم الأخير من الفصل الأول تطرقت إلى صحافة المهجر السورية كالبرازيل وفرنسا وما حَمَلَته من معلومات حول تهجير الأرمن ومذابحهم في تلك الفترة.
أما في الفصل الثاني من الدراسة تم توضيح المرحلة الثانية من عملية الإبادة في الصحافة الصادرة خلال 1915 ـ 1930. وتم عرض وسائل التعذيب وأسباب ونتائج الإبادة التي نفذت من قبل الأتراك كما ذكرت على صفحات الجرائد السورية. وفي النهاية تم التركيز على تفاصيل استقرار الأرمن المهجَّرين في سوريا والمسائل المتعلقة بذلك وطرح موقف السوريين منهم.
واستكمالاً للفائدة أرفق فهرس عناوين جميع المقالات التي وردت في الصحف السورية التي تخُّص موضوع الأرمن.
وكذلك نصوص بعض المقالات التي تناولت أخبار إبادة الأرمن، إضافة إلى عدد من صور وثائق الجرائد مع ترويساتها.
ومن دراسة الصحف كمصدر تاريخي نجد أن قيمةَ الموضوع هنا تكمن في إِضاءة الجوانب المهمَلة وتقديم أدلة وحقائق للمجتمع الدولي حول إبادة نفذت ضد الإنسانية في نهاية القرن التاسع عشر وبداية القرن العشرين.
